Radiation Safety for Homeland Security
1-hour to 1-day workshops
(call 1-800-871-7930 for appointment)
Our Radiation Safety for Homeland Security workshops:
-
assist federal, state and local first responders for nuclear
terrorism incidents,
-
inform citizens on the risks posed by radioactive materials, and
-
provide protective steps to take in the event of a terrorist
attack involving radioactive materials.
These workshops can be presented as a one-hour overview of possible nuclear terrorism events and steps people
can take to protect themselves from radiation. Longer workshops, up to eight hours, would provide more details for
understanding radiation, radiation risk perceptions and mythologies, sources of radiation, radiation health
effects, radiation instruments and measurements, responses to dirty bombs or attacks on nuclear power plants,
appropriate actions for first responders (police, fire, medical), how to deal with fears of nuclear terrorism, and
appropriate actions for the general public.
Radiation Safety Academy faculty members are all board certified specialists in radiation safety (by the
American Board of Health Physics) with 20-40 years of applied radiation safety experience. The Radiation Safety
Academy has provided radiation safety training to several thousand new radiation workers and over 1200 new
Radiation Safety Officers. The Academy is one of the largest providers of radiation safety training in the U.S.
and currently offers over 25 regularly scheduled courses at its training center in Gaithersburg, MD.
These workshops for homeland security will be provided by appointment at times and locations as requested. The
Academy will provide professional instructors, handout materials, demonstration equipment, and projection
equipment.
The Academy will also provide the training materials and training for other volunteer instructors to put on the
same workshops.
