State of Maryland  qualifications for operating a fluoroscopy unit have changed December 31, 2005.

Persons planning to use fluoroscopy units must have completed 4 hours of training on the safe handling of these devices. This class is intended to meet the four hour requirement and will include a written exam upon completion.

Not only are physicians required to have this training but also technicians that are present during the use of fluoroscopes.

This course is conducted as an afternoon session from 1:00pm to 5:00pm as most fluoroscopy activities are conducted in the early mornings. The course covers: radiation fundamentals, regulations, biological effects, machine operation, and dosimetry.

The faculty for this course includes Ms. Kelly Austin who has years of experience in medical radiation safety at the National Institutes of Health.
